Stepping into a new season

British people have a reputation for talking about the weather. Perhaps this is because our weather is characteristically changeable. Apparently it is because our weather is influenced by three competing weather systems.

The warm sunshine of this summer is receding in our memories, and the temperature has dropped. We are starting to enter a new season.

The Bible also uses many weather metaphors for life and faith. In the same passage as Jesus’ words about being born again, he says:

The wind blows wherever it pleases.
You hear its sound, but you cannot tell
where it comes from or where it is going.
So it is with everyone born of the Spirit
(John 3:8)

The invitation is to find where God’s Spirit is blowing, and set our sails to follow the course to which God calls us.
